As we examine James 3:1-12 and continue to explore God’s Word today, we will see what the Bible says about the tongue. First, let’s determine why the tongue can be a liability and its potential to build up or destroy. Once we grasp that, it is only logical to exercise some self-control. However, outside of God’s help, it’s a practical certainty that we cannot wield it in such a way that we bring God glory by ourselves. Therefore, we need to pursue this exercise of discretion and wisdom by relying on our Almighty Creator and the lead of the Holy Spirit. It’s only a matter of time before our willpower fails us otherwise. May we pursue excellence in our speech and reap the fruits of obedience as we apply these truths in our daily lives.
