Hi Everyone! Verse of the Day 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as […]

Hi Everyone!

Verse of the Day

27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27 (NKJV)

Quote of the Day

“God cannot give us happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”

– C.S. Lewis

Reflection

Whenever we look for God’s gifts from other outlets, we are left empty. The idols fabricated by our hearts may appease our appetites for a brief time, but soon after, they only bring trouble. Even those of us who know the value of proximity to God may occasionally take it for granted. Perhaps the allure of a particular temptation overtakes us, or we forget to stay disciplined about our spiritual nourishment. These are real threats that believers face daily.

Today’s verse reminds us that Jesus Christ offers us peace that we cannot find anywhere else. The world offers fool’s gold, and our adversary, the devil, seeks to destroy us through many avenues. These offers of empty promises and false hopes only lead us astray and distract us from God’s mission for us.

The devil rarely attacks us in obvious ways. Instead, he exploits our weaknesses and often comes disguised as everything we ever wanted. That’s why we must all remain vigilant.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)

All of us, including me, are capable of stumbling from time to time. Even the most seasoned believers sin and must ask God for help in repenting. We must crucify the desires of the flesh. Thank God for His grace, mercy, love, and forgiveness, which comfort us when we fall short.

When we find motivation in God’s will for us and demonstrate it in our actions, we will experience His peace in us. The world might be in shambles. Our immediate situation may prove itself difficult. There may be daunting obstacles that stand in the way of our success. But no matter what, we can rest assured that God’s peace will sustain us in all circumstances.

As today’s verse closes, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” The more we experience God’s supernatural help and provision in our times of need, the more confident we will grow that He has us right where we are for a reason.

Application

Praise God for the many tools in our arsenal against evil. He equips us with his full armor, guides us with His word, gives us access to Him in prayer, protects us with His angels, surrounds us with fellow believers, provides us with ways of escape from temptation, and leads us by His Holy Spirit.

All of these assets are priceless as we wage war against evil. All of us should have faith that we have already won the war through the victory Jesus Christ won on our behalf. However, it remains our responsibility to face each battle one by one. That constant obedience will give us peace in God that transcends all understanding.

We must proceed steadfastly and boldly in the direction that God leads us. When circumstances throw us an unexpected detour, we can rest assured that it didn’t take God by surprise. In those moments, we must utilize God’s tools, especially prayer. When we feel least inclined to pursue them, we often need them most.

Take a few moments to consider God’s track record in your personal life. Look at His constant love in the lives of our fellow believers in the Bible. Even when it seemed they had no hope, God made a way for them. In the same way, God was there for them; He will remain there for His children.

God parted the sea for Moses. He delivered Daniel from the lion’s den. He protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. He guided Noah in building an ark for safety during the flood. He empowered King David to have a heart after Him and lead Israel. Why wouldn’t He help you?

Why would we doubt His provision now if He did all that for these flawed sinners among His children like us? God is just as faithful today as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow. In the same way He used them, He can use us for His purposes. Embrace His call upon Your life and seek Him wholeheartedly. May all of us who believe abide in Him, obey Him, and enjoy His peace now and forever.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You, Father, for forgiving me. Thank You for Your gentleness and enabling me to repent of my numerous sins in Your sight. I know there are some I may not have even noticed I committed, and I ask You to forgive me for those, too.

I am thankful for Your peace in my life, for filling me with Your Holy Spirit, and for His daily guidance. Without Your presence and Your word, I would be lost. Thank You for all Your provisions. Without them, I don’t know what I would do.

The world we live in is fleeting. Please help me focus on what matters most in life and find peace in You. I don’t want to cling to an idol for short-term satisfaction, pleasure, or relief. I receive lasting blessings solely through Jesus Christ, Your Son, and my Lord and Savior. Thank You for not giving like the ruthless world we live in, but instead for offering Your most precious gifts of generosity and love.

Please help me not take Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for granted. Salvation may be a gift, but the cost of offering it to us was the greatest price ever paid: the precious blood of Your Son. I don’t want to lose sight of that, so I ask that You please help me redeem time for eternity.

Thank You for giving me much more than I deserve.

I pray in Jesus Christ’s precious, holy, and mighty name.

Amen.

In this Savior and Lord Podcast episode, Victor and guest Carolina discuss what it practically looks like for Christian women and men to put God first in dating and relationships, emphasizing identity rooted in Christ, avoiding idolatry, and keeping spiritual priorities like church and Bible study.

They stress building a foundation of friendship, clear communication, and recognizing the dangers of being unequally yoked, including compromised values, lack of accountability, and pressure toward premature intimacy.

Victor explains how men can lead without being performative through private devotion, consistency, humility, and servant-hearted leadership modeled after Christ. They address biblical submission as mutual and covenant-based within marriage, not dating, and how trust is built over time. The conversation also covers red flags of control vs healthy leadership, dating and engagement indicators, shared vision, boundaries, and relevant scriptures.

“13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 […]

“13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV).

There are times when I actively pursue God with outstanding zeal and other seasons when I find my attention divided (Luke 10:38-42). Sometimes it is rooted in mistakenly erecting idols or spreading ourselves too thinly across many areas (1 Corinthians 10:14). We might find ourselves in a state of satisfaction where we immerse ourselves in the things of God but then allow elements of compromise to open the door to complacency. A certain degree of self-awareness helps greatly in cases like this. If we realize that our hearts are not all-in for God’s glory, we can at least acknowledge that change is needed (2 Corinthians 13:5). Otherwise, it is easy to continue to slip away from God. As any seasoned believer will tell you, only bad things can come from that. The last thing we can afford to concede is our intimacy with Jesus Christ (John 15:4-6).

In cases like these, we might also make the mistaken connection of thinking that our standing with God might improve based on our performance. In terms of salvation, this could not be further from the truth (Ephesians 2:8-9)! Likewise, if we do things for God, they should flow out of gratitude and transformation in our lives (Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 2:10). In other words, we know that God will not love us anymore or any less based on what we do. We cannot earn God’s grace (unmerited favor). By definition, it is something we do not deserve in the first place. Suffice it to say that we are inspired to do good works as a result of being believers, not to become saved or maintain our faith and relationship with Jesus Christ (Galatians 5:22-23).

Our world sidetracks us with many distractions that detract from our focus on eternity. We must remind ourselves and other loved ones that such endeavors may not effectively redeem the time (Ephesians 5:16-21). At times we tend to concentrate on the circumstances this world puts us in with greater attention than that which we extend toward God. Meanwhile, we should recognize God’s sovereignty and find our ultimate source of comfort, satisfaction, solutions, and rest in Him (Psalm 16:11). Instead, we tend to resort to our efforts to solve problems that often only serve to stress us out or instill worry in us concerning matters outside our control (Matthew 6:34). Furthermore, many of these issues that we blow out of proportion eventually prove less of a threat to our lives than we thought they would be.

Of course, I am not advocating that we settle into a pattern of passivity and fail to address the outstanding issues we must face. On the contrary, God wants us to be faithful and fearlessly seek His will in good and bad times. The key is to remember that God and His numerous provisions are available to us as we face these battles (2 Peter 1:3). Rather than attempting to handle something alone, we can follow God’s will and seek counsel from others who can offer wisdom on navigating the situation (Proverbs 11:14). Likewise, instead of worrying about our circumstances, we can pray to God and surrender our requests, concerns, and anxieties at His feet (1 Peter 5:7). Finally, we may need to exercise humility if personally stressed or on the verge of burnout. Sharing that information with our loved ones who God has surrounded us with and seeking His help and peace is crucial (Galatians 6:9-10).

Another issue that pops up on an alarming basis is the perception that one has tasted enough of God’s presence (Ecclesiastes 8:3). For instance, we may live in a toxic work environment or face countless worldly situations from one Sunday to the next. We might think that as long as we replenish ourselves with God’s Word for that Sunday service, we can handle a whole week without continuing to pursue God. Then we are caught off guard when we do not feel God’s presence as intimately and lack spiritual nourishment (Psalm 46:10). We need to recognize that a brief sermon is not sufficient to cope with the weight of this world across the span of a week.

As such, we must consider options such as surrounding ourselves with Christian fellowship, personal Bible study, involvement in a Church small group, and maintaining an active prayer life (Hebrews 10:25, 1 Chronicles 6:11). I am not saying all these things are necessary simultaneously. Still, in a general sense, they serve to edify you and those around you in extraordinary ways over time (1 Thessalonians 5:11-13). They also open the door for you to share your insight with other believers and allow you to serve God in the process.

One of the key takeaways from all this is to recall that it isn’t likely that we remain stationary in our walk with Jesus Christ. Instead, we walk toward Him or away from Him with every decision we make (Joshua 24:15). While we cannot lose our salvation through patterns of continuous, unrepentant sin, it should concern us if we are not observing sanctification in our lives overall (1 Thessalonians 4:3). It follows that our intimacy with Jesus Christ should be prioritized and could suffer if we fail to neglect such concerns. We must avoid compromise at all costs and draw nearer to God at every opportunity (Isaiah 55:6). Every decision tends to lead us closer or further away from God. We should set our sights on the significance of eternity in Heaven with Jesus Christ and recall how brief our life is by comparison (Psalm 144:4, James 4:14). As such, let us seek God and His will by actively pursuing a relationship with our Lord and Savior. After all, it is only in, with, and through Jesus Christ that we successfully do anything of eternal value.

Solitude has its positive and negative aspects to consider in our lives. On the one hand, we want to emphasize […]

Solitude has its positive and negative aspects to consider in our lives. On the one hand, we want to emphasize the essential nature of community within the dynamics of our well-being. Surely we don’t want to forsake the assembly and refrain from engaging our brothers and sisters in Christ regularly (Hebrews 10:25). However, intentional doses of isolation can offer fresh opportunities to enjoy the tranquility and rest from the noise. In other words, they are nothing short of a necessity for many of us to enjoy quiet time alone, especially when we seek God and His Word in such pivotal moments.

As with many other things in life, exercising moderation and finding the balance that best suits you should be your consistent aspiration. I would venture to say there is no one size fits all answer regarding the frequency of seclusion versus the time we spend with people because we are not duplicates of one another. There are also many moving parts to consider before establishing the pattern that best suits you. For instance, some of us are introverted by nature and will gravitate towards more independence to attain rest and peace. Meanwhile, extroverted people might derive comfort and joy from maximizing time spent with people. Examples of additional factors to help determine the best balance for you include the following:

Current energy levels.

Knowing our limits (i.e., stamina, stress, physical needs, etc.)

Patterns of behavior. (i.e., recent activities, exposure of the senses to stimuli or lack thereof, etc.)

Recognizing these variables and considering the many that remain unmentioned above makes it challenging to determine optimal circumstances for ourselves, let alone for people in the aggregate. Interestingly, solitude provides us ample time to reflect and grow to learn what we need, want, and hope to achieve. However, liabilities like loneliness or depression can creep in if we over-emphasize it at the expense of spending time with loved ones.

Many of us, including those who identify as introverts, conceded that the recent epidemic we collectively faced stretched our affinity for alone time. Despite the connectivity technological advances provided through social media and apps like Zoom, almost everyone I recall speaking with afterward was thankful to reconnect with people again. It is not a stretch to conclude that parts of our physical, mental, and spiritual wellness rely on seeing people face-to-face and interacting beyond our computer screens. There is no denying that we are all social on some level. It is just a matter of determining where each of us lands on that spectrum that helps us pinpoint the proper balance of solitude and community that works for us accordingly.

As believers, this should indicate how vital it is to be the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13-16). Sharing God’s love with those we encounter may seem like a small, unnecessary, or even inconsequential gesture to us at the moment. However, these moments have the power to change the trajectory of people’s lives. We have no idea what some people have faced throughout the day, let alone their lives before we run into them. Opening someone’s door, lending a helping hand, or sharing God’s Word could lead to a tipping point in the right direction (Philippians 2:1-4). A lifetime of acts such as these may translate to eternal blessing for them and eternal reward for us (Matthew 6:19-21). We might even experience the privilege of leading some to come to saving faith in Jesus Christ and avoid eternity in hell (Romans 1:16, Isaiah 55:11)!

Balancing intentionality with our solitude and immersing ourselves in our local Church community assists us in overcoming the numerous distractions that contend for our attention. Unfortunately, it is easy to get caught up in the motions and forget to be intentional with our resources, time, and energy (1 Peter 4:10, Luke 16:1-13). Looking for the thrill of our next moment of instant gratification, we may resort to things like excessive social media, pornography, drugs, sex, alcohol, and so forth. These can develop into harmful patterns of behavior and even sinful addictions if left unchecked. Such dead-end roads reward us with unearned, momentary dopamine releases that feel extremely good for the moment and leave behind a wake of pain, stress, anxiety, worry, or even depression to cope with later (Romans 6:20-23). If behaviors like these become habitual, they typically motivate us to pursue more extreme measures involving a higher quantity and extended duration of exposure to acquire similar highs.

Thankfully, when we fight alongside other believers and encourage one another to overcome such setbacks, we can develop accountability and extra lines of defense before these detrimental behaviors get out of control (1 Peter 5:8-9). We must avoid the traps above and instead enjoy God-given pleasures responsibly in their time while we repent of the sinful ones with God’s help (Acts 3:19). For instance, we can enjoy sex in a marriage relationship between a man and woman with God’s blessing. In contrast, outside of marriage, it is a sinful endeavor. We must refrain from settling for the fool’s gold the devil has to offer if we want to experience God’s best. After all, He is the One Who invented sex. It is worth noting some things are intrinsically wrong. For example, pornography is immoral, and we should fight to avoid it consistently (Matthew 5:28). Thankfully, when we know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we can cling to His promises to us. He has set us free from slavery to such sins (Romans 6:20-22). If we reach out to Him for help, He will assist us. We can rest assured He has won the war over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Thus, we no longer need to live in condemnation (Romans 8:1).

Whether in a period of solitude or with your loved ones, remember you can always reach out to them for help. There is a reason God has empowered you to help others, and I would bet that those you have invested in will gladly be there for you when you need it most. If all else fails, God Himself will always be with you and never leave or forsake you (Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:6, Hebrews 13:5-8). Take comfort in His presence and provisions today!

There is a tremendous comfort to be found in recognizing God’s sovereignty over everything. We must take heart that our […]

There is a tremendous comfort to be found in recognizing God’s sovereignty over everything. We must take heart that our immediate circumstances are under His control. Sometimes this can lead us to question the will of God in the wake of a tragedy or some set of unfortunate events. However, those are the times where we may sometimes best demonstrate our faith. God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), and He often uses trials to mold our character (1 Peter 5:10). While it is never comfortable in the moment, God has an infinitely greater view of what is best in the context of eternity and the authority to allow these kinds of things to happen in our lives from time to time. We must take heart that while sometimes we do tackle things beyond our abilities to cope, He will send His children provisions to persevere. Whether that be through a faithful friend, loving family, or a compassionate set of brothers and sisters in Church, He will see you through the storm. Even when the deck might appear impossibly stacked against you, our God takes delight in making the impossible possible for His people (Matthew 19:26).

It is remarkable how reading the scriptural reality of this having happened in the lives of our forefathers often brings us comfort. I usually try to personalize it a step further when it applies to my own life. How can I doubt God’s goodness when I have tasted of it first-hand? There’s no way I can lose faith because things are not going my way when I can see God’s perfect track record operating in my life. Does this mean He has always met my expectations? No. However, my expectations are not the standard for how He works. Situations, where I might see failure without redeeming value have often turned into some of the most valuable experiences of my life. The kinds of events that genuinely shape you into a better person are priceless. I concede that they happen according to God’s will, but I also pray for as much gentleness as possible to accompany His loving and firm correction (Hebrews 12:6-11). Indeed seeing how faithful He has been even in my time here on earth instills in me an unshakeable trust that there is no reason for Him to begin to let me down now. God is not in the business of leaving or forsaking us, nor starting a good work in us and not seeing it through to its completion (Hebrews 13:5, Philippians 1:6). With these realities in mind, along with the fact that He has greater control of all situations than we can fathom, how can we not find peace?

Indeed, there are times when we might not be feeling an immediate sense of peace or comfort. However, we know that our foundation does not need to be compromised when grounded in Jesus Christ. When our identity is firmly rooted in our Lord’s salvation, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and being partakers of an eternal inheritance as God’s children, we can find permanent security. No matter what chaos we might witness around us or even experience ourselves, He never fails us (Romans 8:35-39). Often, with a good dose of perspective, our perceived problems are truly minuscule and solvable. Unfortunately, in our culture, we tend to fall into the trap of dramatizing our issues and under-appreciating the numerous blessings God has bestowed upon us. Going back to that position of gratitude and contentment will help us appreciate the bigger picture.

No one has a perfect life regardless of what their Instagram or Facebook pages seem to tell you. Remember, comparison on social media often leads to envy and jealousy. It achieves nothing and leaves you feeling like you do not measure up. It fails to appreciate what someone sacrificed to get to where they are. You also show God in a sense that you think you know more than Him because perhaps your life is not at the stage you expected it to be by now. So instead of spending that precious time comparing your everyday life to their highlight reel, work on doing things God’s way. There is nothing wrong with celebrating milestones or congratulating friends on theirs, among other social media activities, but it can become toxic, like many different tools. If you know deep down it is your kryptonite, it might be best to disconnect for a time and turn back to God.

One of the most excellent ways of achieving peace is to set yourself up for it with intentionality. If you are not spending quiet time alone with God and His Word, how do you expect to experience the rewards associated with it? When we worry or get anxious about the future, we essentially mistrust God’s plans for us. Sometimes we know this as common sense or intuitive knowledge, but we lack wisdom if we fail to apply it. I am not claiming I am free from error and use this with flawless consistency. Armed with this knowledge I put an emphasis on trusting God and casting my cares to Him. Thus I have some seasons where I succeed a great deal in this area.

In contrast, others occasionally arise where I do not implement what I know I should. The sooner we catch ourselves sliding away, the better off we will be. Ideally, as it becomes the crucial necessity it deserves in our lives, reading the Bible will be integral to you. Essentially, Bible study should be as eating and prayer as breathing in your journey as a believer.

I encourage you to be considerate of others along the way too. Our strengths and weaknesses may all look different, but one thing is for sure, we are all fighting some battle. So let us make it a point to extend each other the grace, mercy, and love to persevere in life. If we love even our enemies, what excuse do we have not to try our best to be there for our loved ones (Matthew 5:43-48)? Do not let this be a guilt trip. There is no shame in being a work in progress, and as such, surely we ought to give ourselves the same grace we strive to provide others. In some cases, perhaps even more grace because many of us tend to be our most prominent critics.

Let the critic in you take a backseat as you peacefully take refuge in God’s sovereignty (1 Chronicles 29:11-12). There is no better place to be than at the center of the will of God for your life. No matter what that looks like, we all need to pursue it because tomorrow is not guaranteed, and we need to make the absolute best of every day. May God be glorified by our actions as we find satisfaction, joy, comfort, and peace in Him. Eventually, the Fruits of the Spirit, a relationship with Jesus Christ yields, will overflow into the various areas of our lives that He motivates us in. Without question, the more of our lives we surrender to God, the more we can see His hand working in them.

Happiness is an emotional high often triggered by a specific experience. On the other hand, Joy is a more profound […]

Happiness is an emotional high often triggered by a specific experience. On the other hand, Joy is a more profound sense of satisfaction related to something more concrete. In Christianity, joy is rooted in Jesus Christ and the promise of His salvation. In contrast, happiness comes and goes like the wind. Nothing can steal our joy when it resides in God. There’s a reason why David asks in the Psalms for God to “restore the joy of His salvation” (Psalm 51:12). When we are in a state of joy, it fortifies us with knowledge of God’s timeless provisions.

For example, God often provides us with the “peace that transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). The joy of the Lord is also our strength, which we can rely on in our times of greatest need (Nehemiah 8:10). God often rewards those who are good in His sight with knowledge, wisdom, and joy (Ecclesiastes 2:26). When we are immersed in God’s will, consistently experiencing His joy, it’s typically difficult for the devil to snare us with sin. In my experience, I am susceptible to sin when I am not focused on Jesus Christ. Triggers such as tiredness, loneliness, anger, hunger, and stress may open the door to sinful behavior. However, even with the presence of some of these, if we are joyful in the Lord’s will, we may still not be shaken. On the flip side, if we don’t pray consistently (1 Thessalonians 5:17), armor up (Ephesians 6:10-20), and rely on the joy of the Lord to sustain us, it’s only a matter of time before the allures of the flesh become more appealing.

Pursuing happiness in worldly passions is a never-ending treadmill. The eyes are never satisfied with seeing, the ears with hearing, nor the mouth with eating (Proverbs 27:20). The insatiable appetite of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are all a bottomless pit that can deceive even the most faithful if we become complacent (1 John 2:16). The solution is to find joy in the Lord and faithfully trust Him to satisfy all your needs, so you don’t fall victim to inferior, fleeting pleasures and distractions. When we starve the flesh and feed the spirit, we position ourselves to appreciate God’s peace, joy, and comfort far more than anything else this world has to offer.

Of course, there are legitimate forms of happiness that can present themselves in life, but even these have the potential to become a threat if we prize them too highly. Therefore, it’s essential to keep our priorities in order. Always seek God and His righteousness first. Surely everything else will fall into order when we do (Matthew 6:33). When our prayer and Bible reading time revolves around spending quiet time with God and learning about His Word, we will be on guard against the schemes of the adversary. Thirsting for righteousness in such a way is an excellent barrier to any temptations that may arise. We ought to also take comfort that our brothers and sisters across the globe face similar battles alongside us (1 Peter 5:8-9). No matter how hard it may seem, Jesus Christ has experienced them to a degree we cannot fathom and helps us in our distress. After all, He is our High Priest Who sympathizes perfectly to being tempted in every way as we were, yet remains victorious without sin (Hebrews 4:14-16).

There are moments of happiness we can cherish without worry. As long as it doesn’t become a form of idolatry or distract us from the things that matter most, I don’t see any problem. However, if we give way to pleasure or satisfaction that is sinful by nature, we tend to desensitize and grow numb to the consequences. Furthermore, our hearts can become hardened and our consciences seared if we’re not careful. On the other hand, when we enjoy pleasure according to God’s design, we can delight in it guilt-free without concern of earthly or eternal consequences. For instance, God designed sex for a man and a woman to enjoy in marriage. When we do it His way and wait for matrimony, there will be blessings tied to that level of obedience. Whereas if we compromise and commit adultery or fornication, there are consequences for disobedience. Yes, God can forgive us and empower us to repent from sin, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences for such decisions. Thank God that there is no need to worry about the past, however, as there is no more condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).

As you can see, there are many potential pitfalls and blessings of happiness in life. While joy found in God truly has no penalty and is a God-given gift. We cannot generate lasting satisfaction alone. We must rely on God to acquire it. It is something we can continually experience in fellowship with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Such fellowship is a supernatural blessing. Is there anything more comforting than to know that God is there for us and willingly offers this gift to all His children that seek it in Him? We shouldn’t allow sin to get in the way and form a barrier in our communication with Jesus Christ. If we immerse ourselves in habitual sin, we cannot simultaneously experience God’s joy at its peak anymore, if at all. Of course, by God’s grace, we can repent, seek forgiveness, and obtain it once again. Otherwise, none of us would be able to establish intimacy with God after we stumble in sin. However, next time you feel tempted to compromise, keep in mind a few of these things:

The allure of sin at its inception is much more appealing than the result.

Sin promises to provide much more than it ever provides.

The rewards for staying faithful may not always feel obvious but are incomparably superior.

Every single battle over sin is worth winning, even when they seem inconsequential.

Jesus Christ is victorious over sin and death, so we have the authority through Him to resist and walk in that freedom rather than slavery to sin.

Often, when I don’t rush my feet into evil and, at the bare minimum, delay my sinful appetite, I notice that the desire fades away into obscurity (1 Peter 5:10). This reality is why we ought to stand firm. It’s only a matter of time before God offers you a way of escape or otherwise empowers you to resist until the temptation subsides (1 Corinthians 10:13). Joy in the Lord is one of the greatest weapons in stopping this kind of threat in its tracks. Don’t settle for the counterfeit pleasure when you can experience the joy of God both on earth and throughout eternity. Ask God to help you by praying the following prayer or something similar amid temptation:

“Dear God,

I want to store up Heavenly treasures over worldly pleasures and desires. Please find it in your heart to help me avoid succumbing to the desires of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life? I submit to your sovereignty and surrender my sin at your feet. Please deliver me from evil and help me cling to what is good in your sight so that I may delight You.

In Jesus Christ’s precious, holy, and mighty name, I pray. Amen!”
